Understanding How to Define Base in Chemistry

Understanding How to Define Base in ChemistryIf you are wondering how to define base in chemistry then you have arrived at the right place. In order to truly understand base and its relation to other elements, it is important to understand the role of a base. Knowing this will allow you to further your understanding of the topic, and also pave the way for some great experiments and projects! In order to fully understand how to define base in chemistry, it is first necessary to consider the role of bases in all of the chemical compounds that we use. Bases can be described as the non-ionic groups within chemical compounds. Their role is to store or form bonds with other elements and chemicals within the compound. The most commonly used elements in compound bases are hydroxides, hydroxyls, and carboxylic acids.Water is considered the most basic element, because of its close molecular structure. Water acts as a base in chemistry. It can be found throughout nature, being in the form of ice . Water has a strong chemical bonding relationship with itself, as well as other different chemical compounds, and because of this, it also has the ability to move from one form to another when forced. When it comes to the more complex forms of chemistry, such as biochemistry, we also find that some types of compounds can also act as bases. In these instances, the structure of the molecules is different than what is found in the more common forms of chemistry. The formation of molecular bonds is also something that can occur in these types of compounds. It is important to realize that not all bases are similar. Some are stronger and react more quickly than others. This makes the definition of the base important and helps us to understand the relative strength of different kinds of compounds. Therefore, for example, in chemistry we can say that acetate is a basic base, while butane and ethyl acetate are higher and more reactive. There are two other common categories of compounds that ca n also act as bases. These are methanol and methanethiol and are very useful in industrial processes, such as to recycle pollutants, or reduce harmful chemicals into less harmful ones. As can be seen, there are many different functions that we can think of as being associated with base. One of the great benefits of knowing about bases is that they provide a chemical laboratory environment. As this lab becomes more important in our lives, it is becoming increasingly important that we have the ability to create and use compounds. This is achieved through the accurate knowledge of these base properties. For example, in the preparation of certain specimens and products, understanding how to define base can be extremely important.Bases are important in our everyday lives, and even in the study of chemistry. This is because they provide valuable information and are fundamental to understanding how to effectively operate in any chemistry laboratory. It is always best to have an up to date u nderstanding of how to define base in chemistry, and how to determine whether a given compound is a base or not!

The Benefits Of Green Stone Tutoring

The Benefits Of Green Stone TutoringThere are a lot of people out there that are interested in learning more about green stone tutoring. There are numerous places on the internet that are all well-stocked with information. Green stone is one of the most widely used material for many reasons, but it is also becoming an important educational material in schools around the world. It is one of the most commonly used materials in many classrooms around the world because of how well it is able to teach. It is based upon a concept which originated in ancient times. It has been used since ancient times to help teach children various skills and also to help develop moral character. The green stone material teaches various subjects including math, reading, writing, science, language and many other subjects. Some of the main functions of green stone include developing clear reading eyes and developing concentration. The material helps in teaching children to focus and observe more details than th ey usually would. By providing details that a child would normally miss in a classroom setting, green stone tutoring can greatly benefit them in the long run.The stones work very well in teaching people different concepts. It helps them to develop their senses and with it they develop the ability to learn new concepts and learn to remember things better. Many people that have had green stone for many years have reported that it has helped them to learn a new concept that they would not have otherwise learned through books. These stones have also been found to work well in helping students to learn how to comprehend what they are being taught in large percentages of the cases. They are able to do this because of the way the stones work. These stones are made up of various chemicals which allow them to absorb what they are being taught and then add to it by making the colors more vibrant and more appealing. Some of the materials that have been used to make stones that have been used for green stone tutoring are limestone, oyster shell, calcite, eclogite, malachite, almandine green glass, apatite and much more. The materials were once ground up and used for medicinal purposes before being changed to use as a teaching aid.Green stone tutoring has been effective in giving students a higher grade in all areas in which they were tested. This has been made possible through the different stone shapes that were used in the materials. All of these stone shapes are well-known for making something that works well for a student to see.

What to Know When Writing Your College Admissions Essay

What to Know When Writing Your College Admissions Essay The following piece was written by Zach Kwartler. Zach is a graduate of Princeton Universityand the Marketing Manager for Story To College, an admissions consulting service. He can be reached at zach.kwartler@storytocollege.com. Imagine youre applying to Harvard. You attend one of the top high schools in your area, are ranked in the Top 10 in your class, scored above 700 on all three sections of the SAT, and just returned from a 5-week immersion trip in Argentina. With these numbers, how can you not get into a great college? Now, imagine youre on the Harvard admissions committee. You received over 36,000 applications for the Class of 2017 but you can only accept 3,000 students. You have over 6,000 applicants with perfect SAT scores and over 10,000 applicants with GPAs above 4.0. With these numbers, how can anyone get into a great college? Your essay is the only way for you to cut through the pile of perfect students and stand out in your college applications. Admissions officers say that most students write generic essays that do nothing to increase their chances for admission. Based on my experience working with hundreds of students on their college application essays, here are a few tips to ensure you write an essay that actually helps you get into college: Do: Write about a moment of inspiration and what you did with it. For obvious reasons, colleges want to accept students who are intellectually curious. The best way to demonstrate your intellectual curiosity is to tell a detailed story about a specific moment when you were hooked on the subject matter or the approach to what you were studying. Maybe theres a quote from The Great Gatsby posted above your computer that you read every day. Write an essay that describes how this quote influences your everyday life. Dont: Write a biography of your academic career. In ninth grade, I started high school and I had to adjust to the workload. In tenth grade, I started taking AP classes and I really connected with my English teacher. In 11th grade, I buckled down and really improved my SAT score. Now its 12th grade and Im a transformed person. Does this sound original? No. Many students make the mistake of trying to cram their life story into a 500-word essay. Dont fall into that trap. Instead, focus on a specific moment from your academic career that shows you learning, changing, or making a difference. Do: Write about a conversation on the subway. Imagine you just went on a life-changing summer trip to Argentina. You want to show colleges that you adapt to difficult situations and like taking risks, so you decide to write about this experience. Thats a great idea. To make this work, focus on a specific moment that shows how you connected with a foreign culture. Maybe you were on a crowded subway in Buenos Aires and you spoke broken Spanish with a crazed Argentinean soccer fan. Write an essay that describes how this specific moment changed your view of the world. Dont: End your essay by saying My summer abroad showed me how everyone is connected. One of the biggest mistakes students make when they write about a summer experience is telling a long story that starts when they got off the plane and ends when they returned home with a changed worldview. Again, the more generic your story, the less likely it is that a college will remember you. If your goal is to show a college admissions committee that your view on the world changed as a result of your trip, tell a story that shows what you did as a result of your changed perspective. Dont write a step-by-step summer travel-log with a concluding paragraph that starts with, This is what I learned in Argentina. Remember, you need to stand out on your college admissions essays. To do this, avoid the temptation to write a general story about very broad life experiences. Instead, focus on moments in your life that make you unique. If you do this, you will give yourself the chance to be the one student that the Harvard admissions committee actually remembers at the end of the year. Learn to Act and Gain Confidence With Acting Classes

Learn to Act and Gain Confidence With Acting Classes Why Take Drama Classes? Because Learning To Act Is A Real Confidence Booster ChaptersDrama Therapy: How Can Acting Courses Help Me To Grow In Confidence?Suffering From A Lack Of Confidence: Is Acting Just For Extroverts? You could easily be fooled into believing that most screen actors are pretty self-assured, and that's how they've had so much success in the entertainment industry. However, the truth is that acting is more often than not what gives them the confidence to grow in the first place and be comfortable on camera.Do you remember the popular girls and boys as a teen? They were usually the ones who played up to teachers and got the most laughs from the peers around them! At the time, as someone on the sidelines, you probably envied how outgoing they were, wishing you could be just as happy in your own skin. In actual fact though, those who are the most self-conscious and vulnerable usually develop a persona - they act in the way that they want to be perceived in order to protect their emotions. The idea of using drama to get away from who you really ar e is just as common in adults too, however, some use the skills learned through acting classes to begin finding out more about themselves.Anyone who has had even a minor, supporting role in a school or village play, or who has attended their first ever acting workshop, will admit that learning to act  is a truly liberating experience. Not only can you, while portraying a character, temporarily forget about all of your financial worries, relationship troubles, work stress and other concerns, you can also take away  all of the energy and positive traits of the person you have trained to play and transmit that to the stage.Meanwhile, many find that this newfound euphoria that they get from being an actor spills into their personal lives and changes their outlook on life entirely.Acting can be an incredibly liberating activity. Photo on VisualHunt.comI am a firm believer in taking yourself out of your comfort zone to really find a sense of accomplishment. That is why I think that taking acting lessons to become an actor are the perfect way to bring an introvert's personality and emotions to the forefront and help them to realise that it is good to express themselves, find their creativity through acting and to be heard (even if it is through the voice of their character initially!).But, as mentioned, acting isn't only an activity that makes you seem more extrovert to those around you, the  positive effects are usually long-lasting which means that you get hooked on theatrics. Is It True That Some People Are Born Masters Of The Stage? It is often said that some people 'are meant for the stage'.A lot of parents and grandparents, for example, joke about their little ones being  destined for life as a star, because of how confidently they showcase their singing, dancing or acting skills as well as how they react to the reception that they get from their families. Some might even start applying for modelling or acting classes for kids on their behalf. While I do believe t hat some people are indeed born to be film stars, I am in no way saying that less self-assured human beings shouldn't even bother competing for places in the industry. Far from it!The difficult thing, however, is convincing those with low self-esteem to be proud and actually sign up and go to a drama workshop. And ultimately, it should be their decision because if they want to change then they need to seek out ways of making alterations in their life for the better. That is not to say that friends and family members can't be emotionally supportive and encourage enrolling up on a beginners drama classes. If you know someone who you feel would really benefit from a confidence boost through singing lessons, dance lessons or learning acting skills and getting valuable acting tips, then highlight all of the pros and offer to come along with them for support. You could even be someone that they become comfortable opening up to and rehearsing with, and can watch them explore their creative t alents, see their passions develop and witness them finding their confidence. Some people, from a young age, seem to be destined for stardom. Not only can chatting to others who share your passion for theatre (or share your fear of it!) be good for you when it comes to forging relationships, it also serves to help you  combat shyness and become less awkward in a range of social situations. By placing emphasis on these social skills with people that you feel comfortable with, it should make things much easier for you the next time you do find yourself in a social situation that makes you feel self-conscious or nervous in any way. For example, if you have always avoided large corporate events, coming up with excuses each time the festive period comes around, then with some acting experience under your belt you might feel a bit more certain about joining in with your colleagues and working on getting to know them better. You never know, you could even start to get excited about going out and meeting new people!Having to act off of others, learn about emotional cues and body language and searching for character motivations can also help you learn to really listen and  negotiate - good skills for any career! When you register for  an acting class, you are more than likely going to develop new bonds and friendships that could wind up being the beginning of relationships for life!Discovering More About YourselfFurthermore, an acting coach can encourage you to succeed in  thinking about yourself in terms of your emotions and fundamental welfare. This doesn't necessarily mean to say that it will make you arrogant, but it will teach you to focus on yourself in a range of situations rather than worrying about others. For people who spend their entire lives doing things for other people, drama classes can allow them to delve into their own escape and provide a section in time whereby they can learn to just live for themselves, in the mome nt. Life can be quite intense but learning how to become an actor can culminate in you being more truthful to yourself and thus confident with who you are. There aren't many activities other than creative arts that allow you to  become focused on yourself and explore your own uniqueness and individuality. By learning to understand yourself better than ever before, you can also work on expressing yourself more effectively so you will certainly gain much more from the expenditure than just acting skills. There are many different acting techniques that offer different methods of projecting yourself and your character, like the Meisner technique, free acting, the Strasberg ideology and Method acting, to name but a few.Interestingly, performing in front of an audience can teach you more about yourself than you could have discovered on your own!Feeding From The Atmosphere Of PerformancesThe way that you react and interact with an audience says a lot about the way you engage and connect wit h those around you. Anyone who knows you will no doubt notice a change in you after participating in a few stage productions, as you'll most likely begin to be more impulsive in your actions and feelings, as though you can identify easier with yourself and others. And spontaneity is essential for a life in Hollywood on broadway! Some actors and actresses have stood out in history as being so electric to watch on stage or on screen, many of whom would admit to feeling alive when performing. The legendary Audrey Hepburn is a perfect example, and enjoyed a very successful television and film career thanks to her acting skills and overall likeability. She touched her audiences with her personality and brought something special to each role she played through on set storytelling.Audrey Hepburn had that something special when she was on screen. Photo credit: twm1340 on Visual HuntConquering Your FearsFinally, if you are a beginner in the world of acting, then even the smallest accomplishme nts can feel like you have overcome a big, exciting hurdle. If you have never been one to attract attention, then even considering a drama seminar and walking through the door of the theatre on that first day can feel like a massive step for you personally.Reaching new goals and challenging yourself culminates in a great sense of achievement and is often the best cure for low self-esteem and conquering your fears. But while the build up to stage productions can feel daunting for someone who isn't good at showcasing their passion, it is the actual performance that will really bring home everything you have learned in the weeks or months of professional rehearsals.Portraying a character on stage will mean that you can focus solely on the part, instead of the hundreds of pairs eyes watching and judging you! You will definitely need to be prepared to use your imagination and listening skills and trust your new improvisation techniques if you are to reach the end of your monologue or dyna mic performance without breaking into a sweat!A fear of speaking in public is quite common, and is called glossophobia. If you are to truly overcome your speech and self-esteem anxieties, then the skills acquired through drama lessons like learning breathing techniques, practising lines and watching other performers can be the key to doing so. By studying positive body language and how to achieve a strong mental foundation then you can apply yourself to anything, whether acting jobs or pursuing another avenue. Many experts say that the best way to get over a fear is to face it - so with a bit of self-encouragement and plain courage, you can do it, and you will feel so happy when you do!Find acting classes near me with a private tutor on Superprof.Acting classes Londonacting classes GlasgowActing classes Birmingham CarlActing Teacher 5.00 (5) £55/h1st lesson free!Discover all our tutors NatashaActing Teacher 5.00 (8) £45/h1st lesson free!Discover all our tutors ElifActing Teacher 5.00 (10) £40/h1st lesson free!Discover all our tutors CalumActing Teacher 5.00 (15) £50/h1st lesson free!Discover all our tutors ChristopherActing Teacher 5.00 (9) £35/h1st lesson free!Discover all our tutors LowriActing Teacher 5.00 (8) £85/h1st lesson free!Discover all our tutors DanielActing Teacher 5.00 (6) £25/h1st lesson free!Discover all our tutors CiaranActing Teacher 5.00 (5) £40/h1st lesson free!Discover all our tutors

How to Conjugate French Reflexive Verbs

How to Conjugate French Reflexive Verbs Megan L. Need to brush up on French reflexive verbs ? In this lesson, French tutor  Carol Beth    teaches how to conjugate French reflexive verbs in the present and past tenses French (and many other romance languages) include a category of verbs, called reflexive verbs, that are treated a little differently than in English. Indeed, we have the same concept in English. We might say that we wash our face, we dress ourselves, and so on. That is, we are taking action towards ourselves. In French, this type of action is addressed by reflexive verbs. Common French Reflexive Verbs Here are a few verbs that are very commonly used reflexively: se laver   to wash (oneself) se laver les mains to wash ones hands se coiffer to do (ones) hair se coucher to go to bed se réveiller  to wake up se lever to get up sasseoir to sit (down) sappeler to be called sarrêter to stop (oneself) se taire to be/become quiet Some verbs are usually reflexive; some are only sometimes reflexive, depending on the situation. For example: Je regarde un film. I am watching a film. Je me regarde dans le miroir. I am looking at myself in the mirror. The presence of “myself” in the English translation of the second sentence is a big cue to use the reflexive form of the verb in French. How to Conjugate French Reflexive Verbs Now for their conjugation. The main part of the verb (laver, coiffer, etc.) conjugates much like other French verbs. With the exception of the irregular sassoeir and se taire, all those listed above are regular -er verbs. The reflexive portion (the “se”) conjugates as follows: Je me Tu te Il / elle / on se Nous nous Vous vous Ils / elles se To conjugate a full example in the present tense: Se laver (to wash oneself) Je me lave Tu te laves Il / elle / on se lave Nous nous lavons Vous vous lavez Ils / elles se lavent Lets try a few examples. Try conjugating the verbs in parenthesis in the following sentences: 1) Je _______________ (se brosser) les dents le matin. I brush my teeth in the mornings. 2) La fille _______________ (se coiffer) avant de manger le petit déjeuner. The girl brushes her hair before eating breakfast. 3) Nous _______________ (se lever) à 7h30 du matin. We get up at 7:30 in the morning. 4) Tu _______________ (se réveiller) avant nous. You wake up before us. 5) Vous _______________ (se coucher) à 22h du soir. You go to bed at 10:00 at night. Now check your answers: 1) me brosse 2) se coiffe 3) nous levons 4) te réveilles 5) vous couchez Most other tenses are pretty straightforward, since the same endings still tack themselves onto the end just like other French verbs. French Reflexive Verbs in the Past Tense The tense to watch out for the most is the passé composé. Reflexive verbs always take être (not avoir) as their auxiliary verb. Like verbs of motion, the past participle will agree with the subjects number and gender. The conjugation of être will go between the reflexive particle and the main verb. So se laver would conjugate itself as follows: Je me suis lavé(e) Tu tes lavé(e) Il sest lavé Elle sest lavée On sest lavé Nous nous sommes lavé(e)s Vous vous êtes lavé(e)(s) Ils se sont lavés Elles se sont lavées The optional es and ss following the je, tu, nous, and vous forms depend on the context in which they are used and whether the subject is masculine, feminine, singular, or plural. Lets try a few of these out. Try conjugating the verbs in parenthesis in the passe compose in each of the following sentences: 1) Je _______________ (se brosser) les dents ce matin. I brushed my teeth this morning. 2) La fille _______________ (se coiffer) avant de manger le petit déjeuner. The girl brushed her hair before eating breakfast. 3) Nous _______________ (se lever) à 7h30 hier matin. (Assume the speaker and the friends or family she is including are all women or girls.) We got up at 7:30 yesterday morning. 4) Tu _______________ (se réveiller) avant nous. (You can decide whether you are speaking to a man, woman, boy, or girl.) You woke up before us. 5) Vous _______________ (se coucher) à 22h hier soir. (Assume the speaker is talking to many people, of whom at least one of which is a guy.) You went to bed at 10:00 last night. 6) Le garçon _____________ (se coucher) à vingt-et-une heures. The boy went to bed at 9pm. Now check your answers. 1) me suis brossé 2) sest coiffée 3) nous sommes levées 4) tes réveillé(e) If you decided you were speaking to a man or boy, be sure you didnt add the extra “e.” Make sure you did if you decided you were talking to a woman or girl. 5) vous êtes couchés 6) sest couché If you didnt get them all right this time, dont worry. Either way, keep practicing and using these verbs in context to master them. See even more French verb and grammar lessons here! Do you have any additional tips for memorizing French reflexive verbs? 11 BEST INTERVIEW QUESTIONS TO ASK AT YOUR NEXT JOB INTERVIEW - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / 11 BEST INTERVIEW QUESTIONS TO ASK AT YOUR NEXT JOB INTERVIEW - Introvert Whisperer 11 BEST INTERVIEW QUESTIONS TO ASK AT YOUR NEXT JOB INTERVIEW This article was originally published on textbooks.com. “So, do you have any questions for us?” At the end of your job interview, after you’ve been peppered with interview questions like “Tell me about yourself” and “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?,” you will undoubtedly get asked if  you  have any questions. And the answer is definitely yes. This part of the job interview is the perfect opportunity to show that you did your research, that you’re passionately interested in the position, and most importantly, to see if this is the best next step for you.   You should prepare 5 to 10 questions to ask of the people you’ll be meeting. To get the most out of your time, some interview questions you’ll only need to ask once â€" like, “What is the team structure?” â€" but don’t hesitate to ask the same questions of several people. After all, each employee has a different experience and point of view. A good sign is hearing consistency in the positives â€" and you’ll appreciate being tipped off to conflicting responses, which can imply disorganization or lack of communication (never a good sign). Take in the interviewer’s responses, ask follow-ups as needed (i.e., show off your listening skills), and, of course, do a quick “me” pitch back at them. The job involves overtime or the occasional weekend? “Great! I’m whole-heartedly committed to my performance, my team’s performance, and the success of the company. I worked a lot of weekends at my last company, a start-up, and the hard work paid off. We increased sales by 12%.” Or, “Oh, you’re going to need a full audit of 8 client budgets in the next 6 months? We did it in 4 months at my last job.” Again, the interview is not over at this point â€" you still have ample opportunity to show them why you are the best candidate for the job. To help with your job interview preparation, we talked with 11 recruiters, hiring experts, and career coaches on the best questions to ask in a job interview â€" the ones that will give you the keen insights into your (hopefully) new role and the company. What is a typical day like? “It not only allows you to understand the structure of the position, but the work/life balance. Also, who you’d be interacting with, daily success metrics, and whether this position is highly structured and micromanaged or operates more independently with full decision making authority.” - Kim Monaghan, Career Happiness Coach at  KBMCoaching.com What are the most important projects/priorities for this role/team in the next 3-6 months?   “This question works well for a couple of reasons. 1) It shows the interviewer that you are truly interested in the work and how you can make a difference if hired. 2)  It helps you get a better idea of the day-to-day work and major success metrics to make sure the role is a good fit. 3) It can be asked in just about every job interview and can even be asked of each individual that you interview with at the same company â€" often people view the role from different perspectives.” - Pamela Skillings, Coaching Career Counselor at  BigInterview.com What is the number 1 characteristic you want in the person you’re going to hire?   “I like this question because there is a good chance they won’t tell you the academic, rational stuff that they put in the job description. This is why its hidden information that is vital to the job seeker. It makes the hiring manager think about what they really are looking for. It also sets you up to find subtle ways of reinforcing those qualities as you respond to further interview questions.” - CAREER ACCELERATION Do you know what your next career step is?  Many people don’t.
